Monsters are not random encounters pasted onto a map. They are evidence: undead remnants, infernal trespassers, alchemical spillover, forest hunger, and failed guardians showing where the Viae Occultae have broken.
Bestiary role
Monsters are evidence of infrastructure failure.
Monsters in Via Occulta do not simply invade from wilderness. Many appear from inside the road-network itself, wearing the shapes of old local spirits, failed guardians, hungry under-routes, and forgotten dead.
The bestiary supports the game loop: Luciphilus fights them, Tenebrio reads or avoids them, and Opiphilus turns recovered proof into repairs, tools, recipes, and warnings.
